The Landings Garden Club was originally formed in 1986 by 27 island gardening enthusiasts with a sense of responsibility for our unique island and coastal environment. In our over 33 years of island stewardship, The Landings Garden Club has grown its membership to over 125 strong. Our members actively promote our mission of Beautification, Conservation and Education. Located on Skidaway Island, an interior barrier island surrounded by saltwater marshes, we are home to a wide variety of wildlife from resident and migrating birds to deer, fox, and alligators. Originally a hunting ground of the Timucua Indians, Skidaway is the location of an original settlement by Oglethorpe in the 1730’s (see History of Skidaway). Today Skidaway Island is home to over 9,000 residents and the Southeast’s premier gated community, The Landings. Our meetings are held September through April with speakers presenting information and guidance on all things gardening. The topics have included horticulture, native plants, propagation skills, garden design, gardening tips, attracting hummingbirds, and promoting bird habitats.
